“We should remember our soldiers everyday, but Father’s Day is especially difficult for those with children on the homefront,” says author and illustrator Michelle Ferguson-Cohen. “We hope this will give children, friends and family a way to say how proud and thankful we are for these brave men!”

The program also achieves two important goals set by the author: first, to acknowledge and support military families and secondly, to encourage civilian awareness of military families' experience.

The "Daddy, You're My Hero!" children's picture book addresses deployment from a child’s perspective. Its simple, non-threatening message is meant to assure and comfort small children coping with separation, as well as encouraging pride in the parent’s service. The books also suggest tips to maintain communication and deal with feelings of helplessness.

As a service to the military and reserve and national guard communities, a multimedia version of the book is available online free of charge to facilitate immediate need and is also available for sale in paperback version at at retail stores nationwide, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and the publisher's www.booksforbrats.net website.

Little Redhaired Girl Publishing released two titles from the BOOKS FOR BRATS series in 2003, “Daddy, You’re My Hero!” and “Mommy, You’re My Hero!”. Acclaimed by educators and childcare professionals, both titles are written and illustrated by Michelle Ferguson-Cohen. Ferguson-Cohen, a self-professed military “brat”, wrote the books from a child’s perspective to help children coping with deployment. Ferguson-Cohen is the child of a Vietnam Veteran and career Army officer and her grandfather was killed in action in WWII.
